FREE .EDU and .GOV LINKS
These search terms, formulae or whatever you want to call them can bring you 1000s of potential .edu and .gov link opportunities
THREE THINGS TO REMEMBER
1. When posting your links or comments on edu or government blogs or user sites, don't spam!
Spend a few minutes before you rush in to link on any site and make what you add is relevant to the subject, or your link may well get removed. It may not even appear at all if it looks spammy, as most .edu and .gov sites where you can add to pages (blogs etc) are moderated, so someone is going to read your contribution before letting your link on their .gov or .edu site. This can't be emphasised enough, the internet is full of crap and spam already, and spam is certainly not welcome on these types of sites. Actually think about making your content/comment/submission relevant and useful to the site you are trying to get a link from. If providing information you can quite legitimately quote the source (your own web site, for example). Post in the same language as the site! eg. if it is in English, post in English! Thats the first no-brainer.
2. If link building is all you are after, the first thing to do is check that you CAN add a link in your chosen site! Many edu/gov blogs and user sites allow you to include a link, in fact they invite you to add your website URL. Many also allow you to link in your comment or content. Some of these links may be "nofollow" but don't worry about that, you would be surprised at the number of no-follow links which do appear in the search engines! And a no-follow link is better than no link at all. And you never know how the search algorithms will change next week, next month, next year...... Easiest way is to see if there are any other links on there - duh, that's the second no-brainer.
3. Keep Plugging away New potential edu and gov link pages come up in the searches all the time, when they are fresh is the best time to add your content, so a new page or one with no PR (page Rank) may increase in link-value as time goes on, particularly for a hot topic. Not all the links you post will get displayed, sometimes it will take a few days for your link to appear. So check back on the site after a while. Once you get the hang of this simple search technique, you can apply it to any type of domain, or linking search. You can use google toolbar for example, or other addons in firefox to check the page rank of your potential link placements, but do remember that fresh new pages will have little or no PR at first, yet the best time to link on them is when they are new, where your link will be in the even more important first few.
Best used in conjunction with SEOQUAKE tool (free) and then you can see the page rank of your prospective link pages in the search results.
